We’re going to Montreal on today’s show to talk about cycling. Herve′ Grosdemanche and Victoria Burns live and bike in Montreal. They say the city is bicycle friendly and a great place to ride. They have a number of bikes and use them as their major means of transportation. Herve′ and Victoria ride to and from work every day, use them to go to the store and they bike for recreation. They love going on long rides. These two cycling enthusiasts say everyone should ride a bike every day.

We have more of your comments, outdoor adventures and story suggestions.  Podsafe music this week from Steve Dreher and Friends.  Contact Gary at doingstuffoutdoors@yahoo.ca

We have two stories on the show today. We’ll meet up with a group of kids in the outdoors as they release butterflies they raised from caterpillars. Our feature interview is with Carl Schwab, one of the creators of the Great Minnesota Race. It’s an Urban Scavenger Hunt across the metro area of Minneapolis & St. Paul, Minnesota on Saturday, August 29th. Think of it as an adventure race for beginners where you are racing around the city vs. the countryside. It’s a little like the Amazing Race, but scaled down to one or two cities and for a few hours instead of a week. Urban Scavenger Hunts are geared more toward the casual outdoor enthusiast though anyone with a sense of adventure will find them enjoyable.

We have more of your outdoor comments and music from Scott Mclean and Josh Woodward.  Contact us by email at doingstuffoutdoors@yahoo.ca

Doing Stuff Outdoors-100

This is the 100th edition of DSO. Gary had hoped to produce a special anniversary show complete with balloons and fireworks to celebrate. Well it isn’t going to happen, on this show at least. But plans are underway for a special anniversary edition of DSO down the road and you can learn more about it on todays show.
Also today, a road report from cyclists Eric and Elaine Hendrickson from Presque Isle, Maine. And on the ‘Runners’ segment Gary talks to 70 year old Frank Kelly and his daughter Marta. He started running in his late 60’s and wore a pair of hiking boots on his first race. Frank must have caught the running bug because he and Marta ran the Boston Marathon together this year.
We’ll tell you about a new podcast called Rock and Trail Tales. Music on the show this week from Grayscale and Sickboys and Lowmen.
